Preschool 1 (3-year-olds)

GOAL
Welcome to the beginning of your child's preschool experience. In this room your child will undergo a great deal of change. During their time in Preschool 1 we continue to build on the framework of the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards. We strive to achieve mastery of fine and gross motor skills, work on your child's emotional development, and apply learning standards in everything we do. Through artwork, storytelling, and aspects of play we encourage curiosity, persistence, imagination, and cognitive development. Throughout your child's preschool experiences, we will guide and comfort them as they continue to work toward being more independent. If at any time you have a question about your child's Preschool 1 experience, please feel free to contact the room's lead teacher. We feel parent involvement and communication is key to your child's optimal success.
BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT
Through your child's journey of gaining independence, it is important that they learn problem solving and social understanding. In the Preschool 1 room, your child is encouraged to express their feelings through words. It is our goal that children learn to solve some problems on their own. If a child is having a difficult time following proper behavior, they will be reminded of the appropriate behavior. If a child continues to struggle with a behavior, our approach is to then speak individually with the child to see why they might be exhibiting the inappropriate behavior. We make every effort to use redicrection with a child rather than removing the child from the group (time out). However, if a child is aggressive towards a classmate, a teacher, or themselves, a quiet time away from others will be used only until the child has calmed down.
